Kids Treated For Free
In an effort to serve the Nevada County community, we are providing free acupuncture and Chinese Medical services for children. Treating children with acupuncture has been gaining popularity as more and more parents are seeking to improve their children’s health conditions with methods that are safe, effective, and free from side effects. Many parents seek acupuncture and Chinese Medicine for their child’s recurring health problems that have failed to respond to more conventional treatment. We have seen first hand the astounding response children have to acupuncture while working in the oncology and chronic pain units at Children’s Hospital in San Diego. The most commonly treated conditions in children are chronic pain, asthma, chronic ear infections, chronic cough, sleep disorders, fatigue, bed-wetting, chemotherapy induced symptoms, hyperactivity, attention deficit disorder, anxiety, constipation, diarrhea, and frequent colds.
It may surprise and comfort you to know that often needles are not used in the treatment of children. For infants and young children, magnet therapy, Shonishin tools, or cotton tipped micro-current probes covered with a stuffed animal are used to stimulate acupuncture points on the surface of the skin, instead of piercing the skin. These non-needle techniques are extremely effective and great for children because they are seen as a game. While the treatment is in process, kids can play with the tools, and even take part in their own healing by placing the micro-current probe on an acupuncture point. When needles are used, a single fine needle is inserted shallowly, manipulated gently for a few seconds, and then removed before inserting the next needle. Typically far fewer needles are used for the treatment of children than the treatment of adults. Generally, young children will sit in a parent’s lap, with a typical treatment lasting about 3-5 minutes. Older children and teens may lie down for five to twenty minutes, as their age and patience dictates. The rest of the visit will be spent reviewing the child’s health history and treatment progress.
Although the treatment of children will remain free of charge, Still Mountain Acupuncture will gladly and gratefully accept donations to keep this amazing service going. In addition, we are raising funds by offering a donation optional service called “Acupuncture Happy Hour”. To take part in “Acupuncture Happy Hour” drop by Still Mountain Acupuncture every Wednesday anytime from 4:30-6:00pm for a simple ear acupuncture treatment made famous for its powerful de-stressing and mind relaxing effects.
